In type 2 diabetes, your body develops insulin resistance, due to which your body secretes insulin in response to ingestion of glucose, but this insulin is unable to metabolise the glucose leading to high blood sugar levels.

Whether or not you need to take medications for your type 2 diabetes, depends on several factors, including the type of diabetes you have, your blood sugar levels, and your overall health.

Based on these factors, your healthcare provider may prescribe oral medications or insulin to help regulate your blood sugar levels. However, lifestyle changes, such as healthy eating, regular physical activity, and weight management, should always be added along with the medications.

Type 1 diabetes is when the insulin secreting cells in an organ called pancreas in your body fail and hence your body is unable to produce any insulin. In absence of insulin, your blood sugar levels increase on ingestion of glucose or carbohydrates. So, for people with type 1 diabetes, insulin therapy is always necessary to manage their condition.
